FROM A WHEELCHAIR TO SUMMIT MOUNT EVEREST
"THE FEEDBACK WAS OUTSTANDING!"
Alexander Forbes was proud to host our Top 50 Senior Leadership Conference in September 2018. We researched several speakers and came across Robby’s story, and wow what an amazing story at that!
We needed to find someone who would grab our audience and take them on a journey that not only spoke to their careers but impacted them on a personal level as well. Robby is real, interactive, inspirational, fearless and has no filters when sharing the true challenges he faced on a daily basis. Kudos to Robby for helping us set the stage for a remarkable conference.
WHEN YOU HAVE NO REASON
TO LIVE, INVENT ONE.
Robby is an ordinary guy with an extraordinary story.
In 2006 Robby broke both ankles in a climbing accident, permanently damaging both ankles and putting him in a wheelchair for the longest year of his life. With crippling debt, severe depression and constant pain, Robby spiralled into an abyss of despair and hopelessness, with literally nothing left.
Nothing, but the power to decide, and a dream.
This is a story about losing everything and what it takes to rebuild a life from absolute rock bottom and not giving up until you reach the ultimate goal...the summit of Mount Everest.
Robby is not the first, youngest or the fastest to summit Everest ... Just the most driven.
Lauded for its raw authenticity and brutal honesty, this story grips you from page 1 and does
not let go until the final chapter.
Since its release in 2017, Mind Over Mountain has sold over 3500 copies in 15 countries.
Note: Left Foot Right Foot was rereleased in December 2019
under the title, Mind Over Mountain under Trigger Publishers UK.
In order to raise the $45 000 expedition cost, Robby hatched a plan to take the world's largest summit banner to the top of Mount Everest.
Measuring 3,6m across by 1,6m high and weighing 950g, the flag was made up of blocks slightly bigger than a business card.
For R500, anybody could buy a block and place their logo, a family photo...anything they wanted, and Robby took it to the top of the world.
The project was a raging success raising enough money to not only cover expedition costs, flights and all personal costs, it raised close to R100 000 for childhood cancer causes.
